5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS (DISCOVERING THE PINK RIVER DOLPHIN)

DAY 1

PICK UP: Guests will be picked up from their hotel in Quito beginning at 05:30 am.

Departure from Quito: Guests will be driven until arriving in Shell.

Breakfast (Lunch Box) will be provided for every passenger. Short stops will be made during the trip for bathroom breaks and photo opportunities.

Arrival in Shell. Guests will be welcomed by our Achuar representatives and will be assisted onto small planes.

The 50-minute flight from Shell will pass over unbroken pristine rainforest, arriving at the airstrip of the local Achuar community.

There you will be welcomed by Kapawi guides, who will escort you on the final leg of your journey, a beautiful 30-minute canoe ride into the majesty and tranquility of the rainforest.
Lunch at Kapawi Ecolodge. After lunch guests will have the opportunity to relax, unpack, and situate themselves with the surroundings.

Afternoon: we will have a quiet activity where guests can walk along one of the Pastaza River beaches. Here, our guides will give guests an introductory orientation session with information about the rainforest and the Achuar culture, while enjoying a beautiful sunset. Back to Dinner.

DAY 2

Early morning: Our guides will escort guests on a 30 minute motor boat ride to reach one of the best natural attractions, the Claylick, where guests will see different species of parrots, macaws, and parrots such as the Cobalt-Winged Parakeet, Chestnut- Fronted Macaw, and Yellow Crowned Amazon. After breakfast guests can take a walk, approximately 2 hours with stops, where they will learn about medicinal plants of the area and tropical forest ecology.

Lunch at KapawiEcolodge. Time to rest. Afternoon: guests will be able to explore, via kayak, the Kapawari River and its connecting lagoons, while looking at the local wildlife such as the pink river dolphin. As the river is quite calm, swimming is completely safe.

After dinner: optional: 1. -guests can partake in a spectacular night walk, observing the many different kinds of insects and amphibians that are found around the hotel.

DAY 3

Early morning: guests will have the opportunity to finding and spotting the great variety of birds that the southeast Rainforest of Ecuador offers like Hoatzin, Anhinga, Speckled Chachalaca, White Eared Jacamar, Cocoi Heron, Neotropical Cormorant, and the Great Egret. After breakfast guests will take a walk, approximately 2 hours with stops, where they will learn about the benefits and uses of the palms to the Achuar and the important ecological role played by insects and animals in the forest. Lunch In the afternoon some activities will be offered: including Fishing where you can fish for piranha or catfish. Cultural activities (legends in hammock house, traditional greetings around a campfire. Guests will also be able to learn the art of Achuar face painting and how it relates to their different activities.

At night after dinner, we will explore the KapawariRiver in search of nocturnal animals such as monkeys, alligators and birds. All this coupled with a fantastic starry sky Kapawi.

DAY 4

This day the guests could go to Bird watching upstairs KapawariRiver or to go to the Claylick. Breakfast and departure for a full day activities: our guides will escort guests along the Pitzacocha trail and Lagoon. During this time guests can learn about the forest and its benefits for the Achuar native people. Our guides will also teach guests about Achuar hunting techniques and ARUTAM the spirit of the forest.
Picnic lunch in the forest. After lunch: guests will an Achuar community. This is one of our most popular activities offered in Kapawi, because of the significant cultural contribution to the Achuar people. Guests will have a chance to see a Community and its members and purchase some traditional handicrafts. Return to the lodge followed by dinner.

After a traditional typical dinner: cultural activities (legends in hammock house, traditional greetings)Guests will also be able to learn and practice the art of Achuar face painting and how it relates to their different activities.

DAY 5

Early morning: our guides will bring guests to specific points near the hotel, in order to locate various species of birds. Breakfast and preparation for departure. In the last few hours before departure from the Achuar territory, guests can participate in a blowgun contest to demonstrate who the best hunter among the guides and guests. Fly backto Shell.
Lunch Box will be provided.

Return to Quito along the same route as the arrival.

Remarks

You will be traveling in the Amazon and rain is always a possibility. Three items of luggage are suggested – one larger duffle bag/ that will carry everything and then a smaller backpack to carry your personal belongings, water, camera, etc.

You can insure that your clothing does not get wet on the trip to the Amazon by bringing a waterproof bag, and/or by packing all of your things inside plastic/dry bags (generally larger plastic bags work best) and then placing everything inside your luggage. Your luggage will always be well cared for on the trip in but this provides extra insurance in case of a rainstorm while in the canoe or during the activities.

IMPORTANT: Because of the size of the aircraft it is imperative to limit your luggage to a basic minimum weight; the maximum allowed is 25 pounds (11,3 Kilograms) per passenger including hand luggage, in case of excess baggage the airline will charge you USD $ 1,40 per each extra pound Luggage.

Clothes Suggestions:

3 pairs of lightweight long pants; quick drying material preferred. Avoid Jeans.

2 long-sleeved t-shirts. Quick-drying material preferred.

2 or 3 short sleevedt-shirts.

1 pair of hiking socks for each day in the rainforest.

1 light windbreaker, sweater or fleece jacket.

1 brimmed hat (suitable for both sun and rain).

1 light waterproof poncho (these are also available at the lodge).

Bathing Suit.

Footwear:

1 pair of comfortable walking shoes.

1 pairs of sandals.

Teva or other rugged brand preferred.

1 pair of rubber boots. Needed for hiking in the jungle (the lodge will provide you with these, except for very small sizes (less than a women´s size 5 US or European size 35) or very large sizes (greater than a men´s size 12 US or European size 46). We recommend that you buy extra large or small sizes in your home country as the are very difficult to find anywhere in Ecuador.

Equipment:

Sun block lotion. SPF 45 or higher is recommended. Note; pressurized cans may not be permitted on the plane.

Insect repellent.

Small Flashlight. Headlamp models recommended.

Water bottle.

Lightweight binoculars are extremely useful

Terms & Conditions

RESERVATIONS AND PAYMENTS FOR INDIVIDUALS / GROUPS AND FIT’S:

Reservations made with 120 to 90 days, in advance of the excursion date.

Deposit: Maximum 10 days after the reservation is made.

Balance of the value of the reservation must be paid 60 days before the date of the excursion.

Reservations made between 89 and 0 days before the departure date of the excursion:

The total payment must be made immediately.

CANCELLATIONS AND PENALTIES

Cancellations made 90 days or more before the date of the tour have no cancellation charge.

Cancellations between 89 and 60 days before the date of the excursion have a charge of USD $ 200.00 per foreign passenger and per national passenger, for services.

Cancellations between 59 and 30 days before the date of the tour have a penalty equivalent to 50% of the value of the reservation. iCancellations between 29 days and the date of the tour have a penalty equivalent to 100% of the value of the reservation includes the value of the tour and transportation Quito-KE & R-Quito.

NOTES BOTH FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FOR GROUPS.

Cancellations for medical reasons or death of a close relative made between 29 and 0 days before the departure of the tour, have a penalty equivalent to 50% of the value of the reservation, has a penalty equivalent to 100% of the value of transportation.

CEKSA accepts changes of date of departure, or changes of names of passengers 30 days before the date of excursion provided that 100% of the value of said reservation has been canceled.

In case the passenger decides to change the date of travel 29 days or less before the departure date, he must pay again the cost corresponding to the transportation (valid at the date of departure).
