BARTHOLOMEW
It is a volcanic island near the east coast of Santiago Island. It is one of the most “young” islands in the Galápagos archipelago. This island, and Sulivan Bay, on the island of Santiago, are named after the naturalist and lifelong friend of Charles Darwin Sir James Sulivan Bartholomew, who was a lieutenant aboard the HMS Beagle, who belonged to the British Navy. Bartolome is the Hispanicized form of the original name of this sailor, Bartholomew, who, together with Darwin, made the islands very famous.
